Contemporary Church Service Down To A Science

I honestly do not have any ill will towards what churches these days are trying to do, but I do feel like it's not really working for the true growth of the body of Christ. After you watch this video...tell me that it's not the formula that you have seen hundreds of times at your church or some other "non-denominational" church that is trying to be contemporary.

What comes next logically after digesting this parody of what so many of us Christians call Sunday Morning is the question.

What are we doing on Sunday Morning?

Is this church model in America what Jesus would like to see in our lives?

The answer really is: Let every person work out their own salvation with fear and trembling.

To be honest I have been involved in organized non-denomnational churches for about 13 years, and I am quite finished with the whole ordeal.

I am tired of the system.  The programs.  The time limits.  The politics.  The sound guy.  The lack of commitment.

At one of the churches where I worked as a worship leader, I did the best I could to get people interested in worshipping God through music outside of the regular schedule of Sunday Morning or Sunday Evening...and the whole idea flopped.

People were just not interested in worshipping God if it did not fit into their existing schedule.  It was quite disheartening to say the least.

It's hard to put into words the difficulties I encountered in my spiritual walk when I realized how lonely it is to be a passionate worship leader who wanted more of God and wanted to share that passion with others through music.

The bottom line here is that the American Christian for the most part has settled for the dregs of the barrel we call worship. Most American "christians" are happy to go to their Sunday Social club they call church for one and a half hours each week, get thier social dose of worship, preaching, and limited fellowship and then go back to their insane and many times totally Godless lifestyle the rest of the week.

I am done with Sunday Social Clubs...unless that is what you really want to call it...that would be fine.

What would it look like if:

What would would it look like if Christians got together outside of their "once a week" social clubs to have extended fellowship in the Spirit through worship, eating together, enjoying good teaching and growing deeper relationships with one another in accountability to the Spirit of God.

What would it look like if a service did not have a stiffly required start time and finish time to herd the "christian cattle" in and out of the building and parking lot to get to the next herd which will ramble in for their weekly visit?

I am simply done with the contemporary and relevant christian church services which do not seem contemporary or relevant to a deeper walk with Christ.

Perhaps these services are contemporary and relevant to the shallow walk of most worldy and carnal christians who do not desire anything more than a weekly social visit.

Of course I have to be careful to examine myself as well...for the possiblilty that I am being a total hypocrite.  I get my weekly dose of "bible study" from a local group which engages mid-week in eating, worshipping, and listening to great sermons from great preachers.  Afterwards we share what God is doing in our lives...and discuss some of the deeper issues that we are dealing with in our walk with Jesus in this "contemporary" world.

Heck sometimes we even change the order of things.  Sometimes we do not have musical worship.  Sometimes we pray for eachother more than anything.  Sometimes we have a special christian guest or friend in to share what they are doing in their lives with Jesus.

Are you satisfied with the Contemporary Church Service Down To A Science?

If not...do something to change it today.  Step out of your comfort zone and start asking Jesus in your prayer closet what he would have you to do.

God Bless you as you seek The King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

I completely agree with what you are saying. We have not attended a formal, institutionaliz ed church for six years. We are part of a home fellowship group (10 adults)which meet weekly on the Sabbath (Saturday). It has been wonderful! No politics, guilt, pressure to give money, conform to a "christian" image, etc.
I strongly recommend Charles Newbold's book "The Harlot Church System" which helped clarify ALOT about the church system and how God's spirit has left it some time ago; much of what we see in the church is flesh inspired and promoted. It can be orderd a no cost from OpenHeaven.com.
