I have warned myself and been warned by others not to bring too much of my personal circumstances or opinions into the reporting of news. But like all news stations who have a slant toward the left or the right...of the crazy...I have my own slant on the news I report.
But mostly what I report is what seems to be happening at the current time. Perhaps we could call it the undercurrent of the popular thought in America. Whether those thoughts are good or bad, depends on where you get your news.
And then underneath all the news reports, there is a common thread of truth running through every station. Some of the truth has been spun in a way to make it look like good news...but ultimately, lately, the news seems to be getting worse...all over.
The news I am talking about is financial news. It was recently reported that consumer spending was up through the month of December or over the Christmas Holiday...(big surprise? No). It has also been reported that consumer "confidence" for the same period is down. (Buyer's Remorse and Regret Perhaps?)
Is this really a surprise that consumer confidence is down after people just spent way more money than they had (probably on credit cards), on things that many people did not need. No...it's common sense...something which America is beginning to rediscover.
Defer the cost on credit cards that's the answer! Right? Negative.
Now...the gloom is already growing as people look upon the unnecessary expenditures they have made...and begin to see the bill coming down the road.
It's been said that it is more blessed to give than to receive..which is probably true...unless you are spending borrowed money at an exorbitant rate of interest which will take the average lower/middle class American years and years to pay off, (if they ever do), thereby contributing to the exponentially growing mountain of consumer and credit card debt, which for many is already way beyond their ability to pay.
On top of all this we now have city, county, and state governments who are willing to take millions of federal dollars from Washington for special projects, which neither they nor Washington can afford.
They are inventing new ways to take the taxpayers money. Some states such as Ohio and Wisconsin stood up to the feds and said no...we do not want your money. We do not want your projects...(high speed light railway projects) We can not afford to spend the money to operate these systems even if the fed pays for it.
Bravo for those who are sticking to their guns about the budget. However...for as many fiscal conservatives you can find out there, there seems to be 10 more people who can not wait to spend Washington's money...(your tax money) on projects that will benefit their states.
And this is the crux of the problem. Not only am I personally feeling the icy grip of poverty tightening around my family...but the governments at every level are broke too. And they are trying to keep the spending from slowing down...they are trying to hold on to programs and pensions that they are required to pay when they no longer have any money to pay them. So they borrow more.
The time for borrowing has ended at every level. Personal, City, County, State, National...over. The party is over. Go home and start finding ways to save money, become self-sufficient, and spend your extra dollars wisely while they still have value.
The SPIRIT of DENIAL in America is very similar to the SPIRIT of REBELLION. The people refuse to see that their fortunes are crumbling before their eyes, despite the tons and tons of obvious data that indicates the game is over.
The casualties have already begun as the slow decline cinches down on more and more people.
The glorious thing about all these fearful and difficult circumstances is it begins to bring out in certain people of character an even more sinister determination to make ends meet. Shedding the extra junk which they no longer see as desirable compared to keeping the heat on, or the lights, or the water.
The majority of America sees the train coming, but they HOPE it will stop before it hits them.
Don't close your eyes for too long friends, cause that train is closer than it looks.
