World events are clamoring for attention in my thoughts these past few weeks.
I am a news junkie and I love to view it through the third lens of Scripture, which makes the news not merely world news, but Eternal News, meaning that what is happening today was planned and foretold from Eternity.
The written Word of God–the “Logos”—the complete counsel of God’s divinely breathed Word—is, as Hebrews 4:12 tells us, “living and active,” and it is living and active not only in my life and in my little world, but it is living and active in all of the current events we are watching unfold on the daily news.
What are those events?
Well, as always in God’s perspective, Israel is at the center of the world, and tiny Israel is once again at the center of the news. Why does Israel matter to anyone? It is a narrow strip of land, no bigger than the state of New Jersey. It has no resources that the world craves—no oil fields generating petroleum for the world’s oil gulping population. It is a curiosity, an enigma, that any talk of dividing this land, or staking a claim on this land would create such upheaval all over the world.
